The new RFS pathway: Revenue opportunities for EVs and utilities

The ICCT is teaming up with the Vermont Energy Investment Corporation (VEIC), the Union of Concerned Scientists, and Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan for a webinar discussion of the new Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) pathway for biogas generated electricity used in transportation, hosted by VEIC on Tuesday, September 16th, 2014.

 

The Environmental Protection Agency recently announced that a new pathway for electricity generated by specific types of biogas and used to power electric vehicles is now qualified under the RFS. Gases produced from landfills, municipal wastewater treatment facility digesters, agricultural digesters, and separated municipal solid waste digesters were all included as qualified biogas sources. This pathway provides utilities with a new potential revenue stream, creates opportunities for biogas producers, and allows for growth in the electric vehicle industry.

 

Stephanie Searle, Senior Researcher in the ICCT’s Fuels Program, will participate in the discussion. Other presenters include Jeremy Martin, Senior Scientist in the Clean Vehicles Program at the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS); Karen Glitman, Director of Transportation Efficiency at VEIC; and Susan Lafferty, Counsel, and David McCullough, Associate at Sutherland, Asbill & Brennan. Each offers a unique and insightful perspective on the new RFS pathway, with experience in fields ranging from biofuel production, to environmental policy and regulation, to clean transportation.
