Fuels

Sustainable biofuels are a key to decarbonizing transportation by mid-century. Biofuel production could replace 15.5 million barrels of crude oil a day used for transportation, or about 25% of current global transport energy demand, substantially reducing carbon emissions. ICCT conducts ongoing research to identify fuels that offer the greatest carbon reductions — taking into account the full life-cycle effects of production — and works to support the design of effective low-carbon fuel policies.
