Anumita Roychowdhury is the Executive Director of Research and Advocacy at the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), the New Delhi-based think tank. She has had a distinguished career in research, communication, and advocacy on sustainable urbanisation, encompassing clean air action, clean and low carbon mobility, and sustainable buildings and habitat. She has worked extensively to build the campaign on Right to Clean Air that has catalysed several developments including improvement in emissions standards for vehicles, massive replacement of diesel-based public transport vehicles with natural gas-based fleet in Delhi, curtailment of dirty fuels in industry in Delhi, and promotion of policies on sustainable mobility. She is also steering CSE’s global programme on clean air in Africa. She has also played a strong international role in contributing towards urban air quality management strategies and participated as a member and an advisor in national and international committees and organisations. She is a recipient of the prestigious 2017 Haagen Smit Clean Air Award given by the California Air Resources Board/California Environmental Protection Agency of the State of California, USA.
