Impacts of California Low Carbon Fuel Standard amendments on support for medium- and heavy-duty vehicle electrification

In the wake of federal funding cuts, a huge opportunity still exists for medium- and heavy-duty vehicle (MHDV) electrification funding in California. In a new study, the ICCT found that the LCFS has the potential to offer around $14 billion in support for MHDV electrification over the next decade. Even at the lower end of estimations, this funding is nearly five times more than what California has invested in zero-emission trucks and buses since 2010, and it could cover most of the infrastructure costs needed for commercial vehicle electrification through 2035. However, although the program shows immense potential, actual funding amounts could vary depending on fluctuating LCFS credit prices.

Join researchers from the ICCT to discuss the study and potential revenue streams and the importance of stabilizing credit prices at a high level.
