Dr Lars Grotewold is the Director Climate Action at Stiftung Mercator. In this capacity he oversees the foundation’s strategy and grant making geared towards ambitious climate action in Germany and the E.U. With its activities, Stiftung Mercator wants to facilitate the development and implementation of socially just transformation strategies to achieve climate neutrality by the mid of this century. Lars joined Stiftung Mercator in 2009 to build up the climate program. He is a co-founder of numerous think tanks like Agora Energiewende, Agora Verkehrswende, Mercator Research Institute on Global Commons and Climate Change, Centre for Planetary Health Policy as well as the journalistic hub Clean Energy Wire. He is a member or spokesperson of several supervisory and advisory boards to governmental and non-governmental organizations and a lecturer of the German Foundations’ Academy. He holds a Ph.D. in molecular genetics and used to work in several research institutes in Germany and the U.K. as well as for the National Council for Science and Humanities before joining Stiftung Mercator.
