Michael Doerrer
Communications Director

Michael Doerrer has been a communications leader for nearly 25 years. Mr. Doerrer has focused his career on building and managing strong, proactive communications programs. He spent more than a decade in the federal service overseeing communications, community engagement, regulatory development, and strategic planning functions for a large scientific agency within the U.S. Department of Agriculture; his last federal role was as Chief Operating Officer. In his more recent roles, he has directed public policy functions, digital engagement efforts, and development activities for organizations in the education and nonprofit sectors. Mr. Doerrer has also taught strategic communications and writing for nearly 25 years at various colleges and universities, including Johns Hopkins. He holds a B.A. from the George Washington University and an M.A. from the University of Maryland, College Park.
