Associate Researcher
Serkan works as an Associate Researcher at the ICCT’s Marine Team in Berlin. His work focuses on methane and nitrous oxide emissions from ships, aligning EU policies with IMO greenhouse gas and carbon intensity targets, and zero-emission shipbuilding.
Serkan has a unique mix of academic and professional experience. He has spent several years working as a chief officer onboard container ships and also took on various operational responsibilities in ship-owning and management offices. Serkan has an MBA in Logistics and Supply Chain Management from Hochschule Bremen – City University of Applied Sciences and a B.Sc in Nautical Science from Dokuz Eylul University in Izmir. His previous work involved modeling CO2 emissions from ships that carry refrigerated containers.
