The invisible push: The role of spatial planning norms in accelerating electric vehicle charging infrastructure deployment in India

With an estimated 700-–00 million square meters of commercial and residential space expected to be added annually by 2030, integrating EV charging norms into sub-national spatial planning norms is critical to increase EV uptake in India. This study reviews the commitments made in state EV policies to amend spatial planning norms for mandating EV charging infrastructure in future built-up spaces and assesses the progress of these commitments. It also highlights key barriers to fulfilling these commitments and recommends actions to overcome them.
