OUR IMPACT
We have less than 15 years to cut global CO2 emissions in half, and 30 years to get to net zero if we want any chance of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. As we work toward that mission, we envision a future where leaders around the globe use the ICCT’s expert research and technical support to develop ambitious, coordinated policies to eliminate air and climate pollution from transportation, consistent with limiting warming to well-below 2°C and pursuing efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C this century.
We take pride in our contributions to regulation and policy victories that have influenced environmental and transportation policies worldwide. These accomplishments reflect our dedication to providing high-quality, impartial, and timely research and technical analyses.

Urban bus fleet transition
In 2018 we embarked on a project to realign urban bus and municipal fleets in five megacities (São Paulo, Mexico City, Jakarta, Hainan, Bangalore) towards a soot-free, low-carbon pathway to improve air quality and reduce the climate impact of public transportation systems. [Read more]

Informing emissions policy
Our research into heavy-duty vehicle emissions in the US and EU revealed significant discrepancies in real-world nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions due to policy design flaws, prompting regulatory changes, notably in California, with expectations of similar federal actions in throughout the US. FUMES makes headlines
In a global first, the ICCT used drones and helicopters to gather the most comprehensive dataset of real-world methane emissions from ships. Our findings have given policymakers the data they need to strengthen regulations to limit marine emissions and slash pollution. [Read more]

Award winning analysis
Our efforts in uncovering the Volkswagen emissions scandal, Dieselgate, led us to winning the 2017 Climate and Clean Air Award for Transformative Action, underscoring the significant impact to substantial reductions in NOx emissions and associated health benefits. [Read more]

Setting a global example

Real-world emissions in India
The TRUE Initiative, with analysis led by the ICCT and in collaboration with local authorities, conducted a remote sensing testing campaign that provides an independent evaluation of tailpipe emissions from vehicles to support evidence-based policymaking. [Read more]
GLOBAL EXPERTS, GLOBAL REACH
The ICCT employs professionals, woking hybrid and remotely, in Beijing, Berlin, New Delhi, São Paulo, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. offices, including fully remote staff in Indonesia, Colombia, Vietnam and Mexico. Our engineers, chemists, biologists, physicists, communicators, economists, and operationalists working side-by-side with policy makers to provide relevant, rigorous, unbiased research and technical and scientific analysis to government officials internationally. Support from foundations and governments drives that work. We thank our recent funders, including:
