Aligning aviation with the Paris Agreement: What’s possible
On 7 July 2022 at 1500 GMT the ICCT hosted a 45-minute webinar with Dan Rutherford, Director of the Aviation and Marine Program at the ICCT, on the prospects for bringing aviation into alignment with the temperature goals of the Paris Agreement.
Drawing from a new ICCT research report, the webinar described the temperature implications of three emission scenarios for global aviation, each built around varying assumptions concerning aircraft technology and fuels, airline operations, economic incentives, and other variables. The webinar clarified aviation’s decarbonization challenge: that only through immediate, aggressive action by governments will zero-emission global aviation by 2050 be possible.
Dr. Rutherford discussed report highlights and their implications for aviation policy.
