Sustainable pathways for Canada's onroad transportation sector workshop

On June 12th 2019, the ICCT co-hosted a workshop, Sustainable Pathways for Canada’s Onroad Transportation Sector. The event was held in Ottawa in collaboration with Clean Energy Canada and Equiterre. The roughly 50 attendees included representatives from several environmental groups, Canadian federal agencies, provincial government officials from Quebec and British Columbia, industry, and the labor community. Over the course of the day, the three sessions and the lunch keynote talk focused on the future of Canada’s automotive sector and, specifically, the opportunities and challenges of completely decarbonizing passenger and commercial vehicle transportation by midcentury. From the presentations and discussions, it’s clear that Canada is committed to vehicle electrification, but there is much more to be done to develop and implement policies to support the accelerated transformation of the transport sector and promote domestic jobs in the electric mobility space.
