The role of the European Union’s vehicle CO2 standards in achieving the European Green Deal

In December 2019, the European Commission put forth the European Green Deal, a sustainable growth strategy that aims to transform the economy of the European Union while tackling climate change and other environmental challenges. As part of this strategy, the Commission has proposed strengthening the current 2030 economy-wide greenhouse gas reduction target from at least 40% to at least 55% compared to 1990 levels and reducing transport emissions 90% by 2050.

This webinar will explore new research that identifies several possible levels of stringency for the post-2021 CO2 standards for light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles and compares these emissions pathways to the EU’s climate and transport decarbonization goals. Presenters will also discuss recommendations for the upcoming standards review.
