Report

Evaluation of vehicle simulation tools

Among the numerous technical and regulatory design issues related to developing fuel economy or greenhouse gas standards for heavy-duty vehicles is the problem of determining the test method(s) to be used to evaluate actual fuel use. This report provides an independent and balanced review of existing approaches. Project objectives included:

  • Creating a list of existing vehicle simulation codes to be considered for HDV fuel economy
  • Developing an evaluation matrix that could be used to perform a balanced comparative review of each
  • Presenting the weighted performance results of that comparison
