Alternative fuels
Sustainable and near-zero carbon liquid biofuels will be necessary to halve greenhouse gas emissions from shipping, aviation, and trucking by 2050. As many as 15.5 million barrels a day of crude oil used for transportation could be replaced by sustainable biofuels, equivalent to 25% of today’s transport energy demand. ICCT research identifies fuels offering the greatest carbon reductions and supports the development of effective low-carbon fuel policies.
