Electrifying on-road freight: Dump trucks for construction in Zhengzhou, China
China has set an ambitious target of having 45% of all new vehicle sales be new energy vehicles (NEVs) by 2027. To better understand the performance of battery electric dump trucks in Zhengzhou, this paper evaluates their operational efficiency and total cost of ownership compared to traditional diesel trucks used for construction waste transport.
The study highlights that while the electric dump trucks have higher upfront costs, their lower energy costs and eligibility for government incentives give them a competitive edge in daily operations. The analysis further shows that as travel distances increase, battery electric trucks can achieve a similar cost of ownership as diesel trucks, making them a viable economic alternative.
