Comparison of fuel consumption and emissions for representative heavy-duty vehicles in Europe
Consultant report
Fuel consumption and emissions testing of a best-in-class tractor-trailer in the US
The ICCT commissioned the Center for Alternative Fuels, Engines, and Emissions at West Virginia University to conduct track testing and chassis dynamometer testing to determine the aerodynamic drag and fuel consumption of a best-in-class tractor-trailer in the United States.
The testing program was designed to allow a direct a comparison of the fuel consumption measurements with those resulting from a similar testing project carried out in Europe by the Graz University of Technology. Following strict test procedures, the fuel consumption of the US best-in-class tractor-trailer was measured in a controlled laboratory environment over the same set of driving cycles and payloads as the European study. The key results can be found in the table below.
